Es el coeditor de Defiant Desire: Gay and Lesbian Lives in South Africa. Su labor periodística ha aparecido en The Guardian, The New York Times, Granta y en otros medios. Es el guionista del documental The Man Who Drove with Mandela, que ganó el premio Teddy por mejor documental en el Festival de Cine de Berlín. Nació en Johannesburgo en 1964, y ahora vive en Francia.
